M (pseudonym) is a migrant worker working in Taiwan. One day M fell ill and was with high fever more than 39 °C. Then M asked the agent to take M to see a doctor. The clinic doctor said M had a cold. After taking the medicine, M didn’t recover from the illness.
After that, M went to the agent, and the agent said, "You haven't finished your medicine. We will go to the doctor after you finish them." Finally, M asked the social worker of the Rerum Novarum Center for help, and the social worker communicated with the employer and M and said, "It is better to go to the hospital for check-up and see a doctor during the pandemic. However, M's sister said: "It's expensive to go to the hospital for a medical check-up". Finally, the social worker communicated with her sister and M, and decided to take M to a nearby hospital in New Taipei City for medical treatment. After examination by the doctor, they found out that it was urethritis and therefore, M had to be hospitalized for two days. Originally, M did not want to, the social worker persuaded M. After being hospitalized, M's eGFR returned to normal and his white blood cell index decreased. Now, after being discharged home, M can take care of M’s employer's elders while taking care of M’s body.
After this illness, thanks to Rerum Novarum Center assistance, M's view of Taiwan's medical treatment has changed a lot, breaking the previous cogitation of medical treatment in M’s home country!
