Let’s exercise together!

On July 27, 112th year (2023), the second course related to migrant worker health was conducted. The topic was about "physical activity," with the goal of encouraging everyone to engage in regular physical activity because it offers many benefits.

At the start of the course, the migrant workers were asked a question: "Do you usually exercise?" Everyone laughed and replied, "No." Some mentioned they preferred sleeping, others found exercise tiring, and some admitted to being lazy, among other reasons. Their exercise habits were shown.

Next, the participants were introduced to what physical activity is, its benefits, and what activities qualify as physical activity. To motivate them, an activity called "What Am I Doing?" was organized. The migrant workers were divided into two groups, one consisting of Indonesian and Vietnamese workers, and the other with three Filipino workers. This activity involved mimicking actions where one person would perform a movement written on a piece of paper, and the others had to guess what the movement was.

If the guess was incorrect, the other group could continue guessing, and if they got it right, they earned points. The actions were all related to physical activity but were designed to be fun, like "jump like a kangaroo" or "walk like Michael Jackson," aiming to make exercise enjoyable. This activity had everyone laughing and participating enthusiastically, creating a lively atmosphere.

After the activity, the course continued by discussing the challenges one might face when trying to establish a regular exercise routine and offering advice on starting to exercise.

Following that, everyone engaged in exercise together. They followed a 30-minute aerobic exercise video from YouTube with relatively simple movements to follow. Everyone participated energetically, and by the end, they were all sweaty and a bit tired but happy to have exercised together.

The course concluded with some simple stretching exercises to relax the muscles. The entire class was filled with joy, and everyone had a great time.

In reality, we all know that exercise has many benefits for the body, but often we are too lazy or feel like we don't have time. It depends on whether we have the willingness to do it. Simply put, as long as there is willingness, it can be done. We need to have the intention first, write down our goals for exercise, and even invite friends to exercise together.

For me, the most interesting suggestion is to choose an activity you enjoy and change your mindset from "I have to exercise" to "I will feel happy after doing this." This way, you will be more motivated to exercise. I also hope this class inspires other migrant workers to participate more in physical activities.
